FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Bonjour...Salve...Bienvenidos!!!

The Foreign Languages Department provides each student with the basics, emphasizing pronunciation, conversation, reading, and comprehension. Offerings include French, Levels I-IV, and Spanish, Levels I-V, plus Spanish for Native Speakers and Advanced Placement. In addition, Latin is available when there is sufficient student interest.

The Honors Program in the Foreign Languages Department includes sophomores, juniors, and seniors, as well as students who show particular interest in individual projects which enhance culture, literature and practical experiences in classrooms without crossing the Atlantic or the Rio Grande.

After completing the standard requirement in foreign languages, Archbishop Carroll High School students are able to use clear sentences, particularly in reference to situations encountered by travelers.

The department is composed of teachers fluent in the languages taught, who are deeply committed to reaching each student and meeting his or her particular needs. With the new wave of technology available to educational systems today, it is exciting to see that this revolution has touched Archbishop Carroll High School students as they study foreign languages.

In well organized and highly focused classes, teachers use a combination of traditional and new methodologies through which students "experience" other cultures and are prepared to meet the challenges of a multilingual society. Computers with interactive software programs are part of our instructional material and are used regularly in all levels of French and Spanish. Students can benefit from these programs, especially with the help of department members who are available after school.
