MUSIC
Philosophy
In nuturing our students' spirtual, intellectual, cultural, social, physical and emotional growth, it is the intent of the Music Department to increase our students' awareness, appreciation, and understanding of music. Courses offered under this discipline will serve as cultural enrichment in addition to acquainting the student to various types of musical expression. It also serves to fulfill the diploma requirement for Music/Fine Arts.
Goals
To motivate students in our school community to study music as a discipline in preparation for future music leadership
To increase the student's musical perception by aquainting him/her with the various styles and forms which have emerged through the histcorical periods (Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern) and with the cultural, political, and social climates which nurtured and propagated this remarkable art form
To encourage the student to attend live concerts and to engage in a wider variety of music listening experiences.
To help develop those skills necessary to enable the student to become an intelligent and informed listener of various music styles To provide opportunities for students to augment their classroom experiences by developing skills and pursuing interests in varied co-curricular programs in and outside of Archbishop Carroll High School To establish and maintain high standards for student achievement in order that they can compete with students from other high schools preparing to study music on the post-secondary level.
