South African Trip 2008
During the last five years, Archbishop Carroll High School and St. Andrew’s Episcopal High School in Potomac, Maryland, have been collaborating on a course that deals with race and culture in the United States and South Africa. Please view our blog (see the link below) to learn about our lessons and experiences. The students met on several occasions since September discussing a variety of issues based on articles, films and personal experiences.
The program culminated into a two week trip to South Africa during spring break. The South Africa trip involved everything from climbing Lion's Head mountain in Cape Town to feeding the homeless in SOWETO. Students learned about AIDS orphanages, Ndebele designs and various community based programs. Participation in an guided safari enabled students to view lions, zebras and elephants in their natural habitat. This is a unique opportunity for students to have a multicultural and international educational experience.
The following Carroll students and teacher participated in the South Africa Trip: Ms. Rhonda Humphries(teacher/chaperone), Joshua Carter, Lalin Robinson, Sean Lewis, Octavia Washington, Toura Perkins and Layne Lawson.
